RHUL’s PLAY! Festival: Artists in Discussion

This panel event addressed the issues of equal representation in the arts and democratic problems that artists face today. Led by myself and two of my fellow students, actor Asha Reid and comedians Alexis Wieroniey and Athena Kugblenu answered questions about the democratic problems that face artists today, specifically in terms of how they are cast, considered and counted.

Is “the arts” suffering democratically more so than other sectors? In the current political climate are changes being made to ensure equal and diverse representation in the arts? What can young people who are interested in pursuing an artistic career expect to experience? We attempted to answer these questions and discuss what actions we can take for future artists to be legitimately counted.
